PROCESS FOR HANDLING SCRAP ANODES AND APPARATUS THEREFOR A process for handling scrap anodes comprising the steps of transporting scrap anodes, which are suspended vertically from a pair of rails with their shoulder portions mounted upon the rails, by means of lugs projecting at intervals along a chain conveyer. The rails are positioned below the chain conveyer and the lugs contact the anodes on the rails. The lower ends of the scrap anodes are pushed upwardly by means of a rotating plate during transportation so that the scrap anodes take a nearly horizontal position, the rotating plate being disposed under the rails and being adapted for vertical rotation. The scrap anodes are then moved onto a supporting means provided adjacent to the rails and adapted to be moved horizontally by a reciprocating cylinder. The scrap anodes are then dropped down from the supporting means while maintaining their nearly horizontal position. The anodes are received are on a receiving stand; the receiving stand is rotated 180.degree. in a horizontal plane; and thereafter it is lowered by a distance corresponding to the thickness of received scrap anodes by a lowering means. The apparatus for carrying out this method is also disclosed.
