PURPOSE:To reduce the energy loss by a method wherein a toggle mechanism is driven by the output of a screw-nut mechanism, which converts the rotary motion of a servo motor into the rectilinear motion, in an injection molding machine. CONSTITUTION:Molds 14 and 15 are closed by shifting a moving platen 11 and the mold 14 rightwards. Said rightward shifting is performed by the rectilinear motion of a crosshead 10 so as to vertically push open joining points 18 and 18' through links 9, 9', 7, 8 and 7', 8'. Said rectilinear motion of the crosshead 10 is equal to the rectilinear motion of a screw 5, which is caused by turning a nut 4 through gears 2 and 3 by means of a servo motor 1. Thus, the control of closing speed is facilitated and any arbitrary closing speed can be obtained. Further, because a toggle mechanism is employed, a small sized servo motor is powerful enough for driving the titled device and the simple structure and easy maintenance are resulted. In addition, when the control of the clamping force is intended, the control of the clamping force is easily performed, because the positions of the screw and of the toggle mechanism can be precisely controlled.
