PURPOSE:To record selectively only information required truly by providing a recording selecting indicating means indicating selectively whether the information stored in a storage means storing one pattern's share of a writing medium is to be recorded or not to the recording means. CONSTITUTION:The character or pattern or the like drawn on a writing medium P is read by an optical reading means 8, amplified by an amplifier 9 and converted into a digital signal by an A/D converter 10 and stored tentatively to a storage means 11 as pattern information. In requiring the recording of the pattern information stored tentatively, the operator sets a recording selecting and indicating means 18 to the position B to operate a gate means 19, the pattern information of the storage means 11 is read to the recording means 12 via the gate 19 and printed and recorded by a recording means. If no recording is required, the selecting and indicating means 18 is set to the position A to activate a clear means 20, thereby clearing the contents of the storage means 11 and awaiting the next pattern information.
