PURPOSE:To distribute uniformly cooling to horizontal headers to accomplish uniform cooling and to improve quality of a billet by forming a master header into a horizontal type, providing sub-chambers segmented by gates, conducting water from the sub-chambers to the horizontal headers and providing an air check valve in the upper part of the master header. CONSTITUTION:A master header 1 is of a cylindrical shape and is provided internally with sub-chambers 11 segmented by gates 8 and walls 7. The water supplied through a water feed pipe 5 in the bottom overflows from the gates 8 and enters the chambers 11 from which the water is discharged through discharge holes 6' and drain pipes 6 in the bottom and flows to horizontal headers 2. The inside of the header 1 is completely filled with the water at the high level but is not completely filled with the water and has some air existing is the upper part at a low level. Therefore if there is no check valve 9, the air flows into the header through nozzles 3 in the uppermost stage and no water is emitted from the nozzles 3 in the uppermost stage. The air is thereupon admitted through the valve 9 to assure the water flow from the uppermost nozzles 3 as well thereby assuring the responsiveness in the control of the water flow. |
