PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect the presence or absence of a liquid and the contamination degree thereof, by providing a prism for imparting a light path to one ends of two optical fibers coupled to a light emitting element and a light receiving element at the other ends thereof and forming a liquid penetrating part crossing the light path to said prism. CONSTITUTION:A liquid 13 enters a recessed part 9 by immersing the same into the liquid 13. Therefore, the change in the quantity of transmitted light corresponding to the contamination of the liquid in the recessed part 9 is transmitted to a silicon phototransistor 2 through a glass fiber 4. When this change quantity reaches a prescribed value, a buzzer 8 is operated. On the other hand, when the liquid is consumed and the liquid level lowered and the liquid in the recessed part 9 is lost, the quantity of light reaching the phototransistor 2 through the glass fiber 4 increases. Therefore, this change is utilized to make it possible to also detect the presence or absence of the liquid and the residual amount thereof reaching the prescribed value or less. By this method, the presence or absence and contamination of the liquid can be detected. |
