PURPOSE:To find out a suitable time for exchanging a magnetic record media by obtaining, the life consumed while the magnetic record media such as floppy disk, etc., are used by integrating the rotation frequency. CONSTITUTION:During the normal access of a floppy disk 14, heads 40 and 42 of disk drive device 64 are loaded to the surface of the disk. While the head is loaded on the disk, a counter 72 concerning the disk drive device is proceeded by using an index pulse 178 from the disk drive device. A counter records respective rotations of the disk and a control device monitors the counter. Just before the above-mentioned short time elapses and the head is unloaded, the value of the counter of a disk drive device is investigated. When the numerical value attains to a trigger value set beforehand, the renewal of a special sectors is started. Next, when the contents of the special sector on the disk reaches the prescribed value, the user alarm signal is generated and the necessity for replacing the floppy disk is informed to the user based upon the fact above-mentioned.
