PURPOSE:To prevent the amount of cocoons in cocoon receiving tanks in an insufficient or excessive state, by giving signals after a given time specified from a time when the amount of cocoons in the cocoon receiving tanks is of specified value or less. CONSTITUTION:Cocoons discharged from a cocoon cooking machine 2 are put into a hopper 15 of a cocoon distribution apparatus 1 and then distributed through the downward rotating chute 16 to cocoon receiving tanks (3A)-(9A), (3B)-(9B) of reeling machines 3-9 on request of cocoon distribution. A cocoon amount sensing member 25 is provided above the cocoon receiving tanks (3A)- (9A) and (3B)-(9B). The sensing member 25 is constituted of a suspended swinging arm 27 fixed to a reciprocating rotating shaft 26 having a sensing arm 30 hung from the arm 27 and further a switch 31 capable of contact therewith. The sensing member 25 is capable of giving signals even when cocoons are unexpectedly in a small amount near the sensing arm 30. Thus, if the cocoon distribution signals are given after a given time lapse since the time when the signals of insufficient cocoons are first given, excess supply can be prevented.
