PURPOSE:To attain low density recording and reproduction of an iron oxide tape by constituting the reproducing and recording device that high density recording and reproducing of a metal tape are conducted so as to apply contact print of a metal tape with high coercive force onto the iron oxide tape with a low coercive force while using the metal tape as a master tape so as to attain low density recording on the metal tape. CONSTITUTION:Double azimuth heads (composite heads having a couple of azimuth angle) 12A, 12B are used to a position of a circumference of a rotary cylinder 11 turned in a prescribed speed and a single azimuth head 12c being a pair to one of the said heads is arranged to a position opposite to the said position. In using a high coercive force tape (metal tape), the double azimuth heads are used and one track per one revolution of the cylinder is recorded alternately while the azimuth is switched. In using a low coercive force tape (iron oxide tape), the said single azimuth head and one of the double azimuth heads in pairs with the signal azimuth head are used alternately while being switched at each half revolution of the cylinder. In this technology, the time compression and expansion are conducted for one or both signal signals depending on the cylinder winding angle of the tape. |
