PURPOSE:To provide an Au alloy member having extremely high surface hardness and having excellent resistance to wear and scratching in practical use by forming a hardened layer by a boriding treatment on the surface of the Au alloy member contg. a prescribed amt. of >=1 kind of Y and rare earth elements. CONSTITUTION:A surface hardened Au alloy member is constituted by subjecting the surface of an Au alloy member contg. >=1 kind of Y and rare earth elements by weight % and consisting of the balance Au and unavoidable impurities to a boriding treatment. Said Au alloy member can be further incorporated therein with >=1 kind among A)-C), i.e., A) 0.1-20% >=1 kind among Ni, Co, Cr, Fe, Mn and V, B) 1-30% >=1 kind among Cu, Ag and Pd and C) 0.1-5% >=1 kind among Ti, Zr and Al if necessary. Since the Au alloy member has high hardness, the member exhibits excellent resistance to wear and scratching when used for ornamental parts, industrial parts, etc. and since the member has excellent corrosion resistance in addition to a variety of color tones, the member has a high ornamental value. |
