PURPOSE:To obtain satisfactory orientation of magnetic particles in the vertical direction and to obtain a magnetic recording medium which is suitable for the high-density recording by impressing the orientation magnetic fields with different intensity by dividing them into two steps when the easily magnetizable axis of the magnetic particles in the coated film which is not dried yet is oriented in the vertical direction. CONSTITUTION:The orientation magnetic field, which is impressed when the easily magnetizable shaft of the magnetic particles in the coated film which is not dried yet is oriented in the vertical direction, is more than two times of the coercive force of the magnetic particles, and is impressed within one second. In addition, it is desirable that the orientation holding magnetic field which is impressed continuously is within the range of 0.1-0.8 times of the coercive force of the magnetic particles until the film which is dried yet dries. When the orientation holding magnetic field except the above-mentioned respective conditions is impressed, the easily magnetizable axis of the magnetic particles cannot be oriented completely in the vertical direction, the magnetic field disturbance phenomenon occurs, and the satisfactory surface smoothness of the magnetic coated film cannot be obtained.
