PURPOSE:To obtain a cinncamic ester useful as a raw material for cinnamic acid by the use of inexpensive raw materials in high selectivity and in high activity, by using a complex consisting of specific two components as a catalyst, carbonylating a styrene oxidatively in the presence of an alcohol. CONSTITUTION:A styrene shown by the formula (R<1> is H, halogen, 1-4C or alkoxy; R<2> is 1-6C alkyl) is reacted with 1-4C aliphatic alcohol, CO, and O2 in the presence of a catalyst consisting of Pd metal or its compound Cu or Fe salt, and beta-diketone, beta-ketoester, or beta-ketoacetic acid complex of alkaline (earth) metal optionally in a solvent at <=16kg/cm<2>G CO partial pressure with keeping a ratio of CO partial pressure to O2 partial pressure of 1.0-2.5 at normal pressure -200 deg.C, to give the desired compound. EFFECT:A catalytic system is inexpensive, has high stability, is easily handleable, and has high performances. USE:A raw material for cinnamic acid which is useful as a raw material for chemicals perfume, drugs, pressure-sensitive paper, other industrial chemicals. |
