PURPOSE:To enable the use of a by-pass valve even for a circuit in which the rate of inflow to a gathered flow port is made several times higher than the normal value, by making variable orifices of the overlaps of a pair of fixed square openings, which communicate with the gathered flow port, and a pair of movable square provided in a pair of pistons. CONSTITUTION:Variable orifices O1, O2 are made of the overlaps of a pair of fixed square openings 21, 22, which are provided in a sleeve 20 and communicate with a gathered flow port 10a, and a pair of movable square openings 32, 42 provided in a pair of pistons 30, 40 alternately in the axial direction. When the pistons 30, 40 are slid, the open areas of the variable orifices O1, O2 are increased without changing the ratio between the open areas, so that the increase in the internal resistance is suppressed. As a result, a by-pass valve with this constitution can be used, without hindrance, even for a circuit in which the rate of inflow to the gathered flow part 10a is made several times higher than the normal value.
