The invention relates to machines for working stone, timber or other materials of the same hardness. A machine according to the invention comprises a carriage 1 which moves on a track 2a, 2b. It comprises a milling tool 9, generated by revolution, which extends over the whole length of the part to be worked on and the longitudinal profile of which matches that of the part to be worked on. The tool 9 is placed above the track 2a, 2b perpendicularly to the latter. The tool 9 is mounted on a beam 19 articulated about a transverse axis y. The machine comprises, in addition, two spikes 25, 26, between which it is possible to mount a part 27 in order to drive it rotationally. One application is the manufacture of balusters, lintels, columns and tombstones. <IMAGE>
