Backrest for a chair. It comprises a shell representing the rear wall of the backrest and made of injection-moulded plastic, and a padding element. The padding element comprises a padding support on which the padding is placed. In order to make it easy to hold the padding support 16 on the shell 11, holding pins 12, 12% are used which are placed on the inner face of the rear wall 19 of the shell 11, form with the latter a single piece, and are pushed into holes 23 of the padding support 16. <IMAGE>
