PURPOSE:To obtain a silver halide color photosensitive material superior in dispersion stability of a magenta coupler, good in spectral absorption characteristics, and high in sensititvity, and capable of forming a magenta image high in color density by incorporating a specified magenta coupler and a phenolic compd. in a silver halide emulsion layer. CONSTITUTION:A silver halide photosensitive material contains a photographic magenta coupler represented by formula I and a phenolic compd. represented by formula II. An emulsion contg. both said compds. is prepared by dissolving them in a solvent, mixing them with an aq. soln. of gelatin contg. a surfactant, emulsifying them in a colloid mill or the like, and adding them to a silver halide emulsion in the range of 0.01-2mol of the coupler per mole of silver halide. In the formula, R1, R2 are each alkyl or aryl; Z is H or a group releaseable by the coupling reaction with the oxidized product of a color developing agent; R3, R4 are each alkyl, alkoxy, or the like; and s is 0, 1, or 2.
