Telephone socket having eight terminals and corresponding plug. The socket according to the invention comprises two widened parts 26, 30 each equipped with two terminals 37, 38 and 31, 32 framing a thin part 28f equipped with two sets of two terminals 33, 34 and 35, 36, the whole unit having approximately the shape of an H and being symmetrical with respect to two perpendicular planes; this socket permits the connection of two plugs each having a widened part 26f and a thin part 28f each equipped with two terminals 35f to 38f which can be brought into contact with the terminals 35, 36 of an enlarged part 26 of the socket and the closest two terminals 37, 38 of the enlarged part 28 of this socket.
