A peelable and electrically conductive coating 2 intended to cover a metal cathode 1 employed in the processes for the electrolytic production of metals, to permit the electrolytic deposition of a metal 3 from an electrolyte on the outer surface of the coating 2 and then the parting of the said deposited metal 3 at room temperature. This coating 2 consists of an electrically conductive dispersion of pigment particles in a peelable binder which does not conduct electricity. This coating 2 is particularly intended for the manufacture of high-purity copper cathodes. <IMAGE>
