PURPOSE:To analyze the behavior and deformation characteristics of a tape due to only the head projection effect of a rotary head assembly by using a head driving part which uses a voice coil and a laser interference device or measuring device which employs a light cutting-off method in combination. CONSTITUTION:A tape 22 is wound around outer circumferential surfaces of cylinders 20 and 21 provided coaxially across a specific gap near the gap, and a head 18 is projected from a head projection window 23 near the gap. The head 18 is linked with the movable part of the voice coil 17b and the head 18 oscillates according to oscillations of the voice coil 17b. The extent and frequency of the projection of the head 18 are set optionally and the deformation state of the tape 22 projected by the head 18 is measured by a laser interference method which uses a laser light source 30, beam splitter 31, reflecting mirror 32, etc.
