The liquid container has a shape tapering towards the top and an inflatable tube ring (6) on the upper periphery. When the container is completely or partially filled, the tube ring (6) loaded by the peripheral zone of the peripheral wall adjoining the tube ring floats on the liquid surface (17), while the peripheral wall is otherwise kept upright by means of the hydrostatic buoyancy (a1, a2) acting on it in the area of the tapering. In this way the peripheral wall (3) of the container, which wall is flexible per se, has a dimensional stability which is sufficient, without any supporting means, for the liquid in the container. The container can be used as a storage vessel for drinking water or fire-extinguishing water or can be used for receiving oil in the context of oil control. <IMAGE>
