Briefly summarised, a process and an apparatus are made available by the invention for the separation of fibrous materials from non-fibrous materials from products or mixtures of such materials, in which the products or mixtures of materials are shattered by rotating lugs which are arranged on one or more rotating components, alone or in cooperation with stationary counter-lug pieces, and the thereby released fibrous materials are sucked away over one or more sieves through which only the fibrous materials pass, or in which the fibrous materials are sucked away through at least one sieve before the non-fibrous materials are disintegrated to such an extent that they pass through the sieve.
