A synchroniser (3) has a synchroniser-ring unit (30) which comprises a thrust ring (31), a semi-circular lever element (32) and a friction ring (33). The lever element (32) is arranged between a finger (31D) and the synchroniser element (12), on one side, and the friction ring (33) and the clutch element (22), on the other side, and is supported with the centre of rotation (C) against the synchroniser element (12). The leverage of the lever element (32) multiplies the force transmitted from the thrust ring (31) to the friction ring (33) and the speed difference between the gearwheel (2) and the synchroniser element (12) acts only on the friction cones (22A) and (33A) of the clutch element (22) and the friction ring (33). <IMAGE>
