The invention relates to a novel piperidine compounds which act as light stabilizers, heat stabilizers and oxidation stabilizers for synthetic polymers and have the general formula (I) in which R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, A, B, X, Y, a and b are as defined in the specification. The compounds are particularly useful as light stabilizers for polyolefines in the form of fibres or film.
