PURPOSE:To provide an apparatus capable of forming dry ice cube having high density and perpendicular edges, in high efficiency, by connecting and integrating a horizontal preforming machine with a vertical main forming machine in a manner to cross the machines with each other at a nearly right angle, and carrying out the main forming following the preforming. CONSTITUTION:Liquefied carbon dioxide gas is introduced through the inlet port 4 into the preforming chamber to collect the snow S, and the preformed material 10 is obtained by pushing the first piston head 7 to the left. Subsequently, the second piston head 15 is lowered, and the first piston head 7 is forwarded to push the preformed material 10 into the main forming chamber 12. The second piston head 15 is lifted to effect the repressing of the preformed material 10 to obtain the formed dry ice 18. Thereafter, the shutter 14 is retreated rightward, the second piston head 15 is further lifted to push up the formed dry ice 18 into the pushing zone 19, and the shutter 14 is forwarded to push the formed dry ice into the delivery zone 21. The obtained dry ice cube has high density and excellent appearance compared with the conventional direct forming process, and the process is also desirable in view of food sanitation because the cube is delivered from the top of the machine. |
