PURPOSE:To enable formation of a track width having high accuracy and to enable reduction in a contour effect hence improvement in the reliability of an analog recording and reproducing characteristic by the constitution in which the total film thickness of the 1st and 2nd lower magnetic layers and the film thickness of an upper magnetic layer are made respectively larger than the max. recording wavelength to be used. CONSTITUTION:The 2nd lower magnetic layer 2b thinner (0.5-5mum thickness) than the 1st lower magnetic layer 2a is formed of a thin Co-Nb alloy film, ''Permalloy'' or segments on the 1st lower magnetic layer 2a and is patterned by a technique such as ion etching or the like. An embedding material 14 consisting of Al2O3 or the like is laminated around the layer 2b on a nonmagnetic base plate 1 to flatten the surface over the entire part. An insulating layer 4, a coil conductor 5, an inter-layer insulator 6 and an upper magnetic layer 3 are successively laminated thereon to a prescribed shape. The total film thickness P of the layer 2a and the layer 2b and the film thickness P' of the layer 3 are made respectively larger than the max. recording wavelength lambdaL to be used.
