It consists of two booms which form the legs of an isosceles triangle and are in a fixed or variable position relative to one another at an angle of 40 to 90 degrees and converge at the mast foot, which represents the outer angle bisector. A joint of conventional type is located at the mast foot. The two booms are connected or braced at gripping height, which is variable, by one or more telescopic gripping tubes, as a result of which the sail stretched between the booms is at the same time optimally trimmed. When the rig is set to the wind, one boom represents the mast and the other represents the foot. During gybing or going about, the functions of the two booms are exchanged. In order to guarantee optimum propulsion, the deepest sail profile, through tilting the rig abaft, is always located in the first third (as viewed horizontally in the oncoming wind direction). The rig, which can be quickly set up and taken down, is mainly used on one side and does not need to be shifted during gybing but only tilted like a fan to the other side.
