PURPOSE:To improve considerably the thermal collapsing property of a casting mold by adding an iron salt which is thermally decomposed by heating to a compsn. for a casting mold formed by adding and mixing a binder consisting principally of a phenolic resin to and with molding sand at a prescribed amt. with respect to the molding sand. CONSTITUTION:This invention relates to a compsn. for a casting mold formed by adding an mixing a phenolic resin, hexamethylene tetramine, water and calcium stearate to and with molding sand. An iron salt which is thermally decomposed by heating is added to such compsn. at 1-4pts.wt. by 100pts.wt. the molding sand. The calcining speed of the phenolic resin in the casting mold after casting is thus accelerated. The thermal collapsing property of the casting mold is thus considerably improved. The above-mentioned compsn. for the casting mold is applied to the casting mold for a molten metal having a low casting temp. or for a thin walled casting.
