Novel 1,1- diphenyl - 2 - methyl - 3 - alkylideneamino-propanols of the general formula wherein X, X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>11</SP>, Y, Y<SP>1</SP> and Y<SP>11</SP> are each a hydrogen atom, a C 1-4 alkyl or alkoxy group or a halogen atom; R is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-5 alkyl group; and R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1-5 alkyl group, are prepared by reaction of a 1,1-diphenyl-2-methyl- 3-amino-propanol of the general formula with an aldehyde or ketone of the general formula RCOR<SP>1</SP> in the presence of a water-immiscible, inert solvent at the boiling-point of the reaction mixture and removal azeotropically of the water formed during the reaction. Pharmaceutical compositions having central nervous system stimulatory and anorexigenic effects comprise as active ingredient a 1,1-diphenyl-2-methyl-3-alkylideneamino-propanol of the first general formula above together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.</p> |
