Hedge trimmers which are driven by an electric motor and in which a transmission and a separating point constructed as a clutch are provided between the driving shaft of the drive motor and the movement mechanism of the trimmer blade, has a separating point in the form of a mechanical and/or electromagnetic friction clutch. Said clutch is seated on the input drive side of the driving shaft of the drive motor. The movement mechanism of the trimmer blade is driven via a transmission which is provided on the output drive side. If an electromagnetic friction clutch is used, engagement and disengagement is carried out via switches. If a series-wound motor is used as the drive motor, its low-load speed can be limited by means of an electronic regulator.
