PURPOSE:To clean the surface of Ti or a Ti alloy and to give metallic luster by heating the metal in vacuum or in an atmosphere of an inert gas to vanish an oxide layer on the surface. CONSTITUTION:Ti or a Ti alloy having an oxide layer formed on the surface is heated and held in vacuum or in an atmosphere of an inert gas such as gaseous Ar. The proper heating temp. is >=about 700 deg.C. By this heat treatment, the oxygen in the oxide layer on the surface of the metal is diffused in the metal and metallic luster is given.
