MANUFACTURE OF NEGATIVE PLATE FOR LEAD STORAGE BATTERY

PURPOSE:To prevent any shrinkage of a negative plate during the charging and discharging of a storage battery and increase the duration of high-rate electric discharge by making the negative plate by packing a grid with a paste prepared by adding an aqueous barium-hydroxide solution to an active material before the mixture is kneaded. CONSTITUTION:Barium hydroxide is dissolved into hot water at a temperature of (e.g.) at least 60 deg.C. The thus prepared solution is then combined with a lead powder containing a given amount of an additive and the mixture is kneaded. Next, a required amount of dilute sulfuric acid is poured into the kneaded mixture before kneading is performed to prepare a paste. After that, the past is packed into a grid, thereby making a negative plate for a lead storage battery.
