PURPOSE:To make it possible to enclose mercury in a tube at a low cost with a high accuracy by providing, besides usual electrodes, a heating element which has a mercury alloy coated on. CONSTITUTION:In the electrode section of a fluorescent lamp consisting of an electron emitting material applied on a filament 3 and a lead-in wire 1 planted in a stem 2, a heating element 5 is set up which is heated when energized through a lead-in wire 4. Then a mercury alloy is coated on this heating element 5, and, after the fluorescent lamp is evacuated, mercury is emitted by energizing the heating element. Thus expensive facilities such as a high frequency oscillator, etc. are made unnecessary and the cost can be reduced and the amount of mercury to be enclosed can be accurately controlled.
