PURPOSE:To form a protective film having excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation without derioration in protecting effect in a method for forming the protective film on the surface of a high-temp. member by forming a Y layer on the joint surface and joining Cr-base metallic foil to said surface by a hot hydrostatic pressurizing technique. CONSTITUTION:Y or hydrogenated Y2 is stuck to the part of a high-temp. member where the resistance to corrosion and oxidation is required and foil 3 of pure Cr or a Cr alloy contg. >=30% Cr having >=15mu thickness is placed thereon. The layer consisting of Y is formed by spraying, vapor deposition, etc. of powder. The circumference of the foil 3 is thereafter welded thoroughly by electron beam welding, etc. to seal hermetically the joint surface thereby preventing intrusion of a gaseous pressure medium to the inside of the foil and preventing the decrease in the effect of applying pressure. The member 1 is then subjected to an HIP treatment by using an HIP treating device 4 within the temp. for the soln. heat treatment temp. of said member. An inert gas such as Ar is suitable as the pressure medium for the treatment.
