PURPOSE:To reduce the production cost of a key input device by giving many kinds of meaning to a single key to attain a multi-input. CONSTITUTION:Plural characters, marks, etc. are written to a key top 1 for input of information of a key input device. A support shaft 2 is protruded downward at the cente on the lower surface side of the key top 1. At the same time, a pawl 3 is added near the shaft 3. The key top 1 is supported rotatably X to a printed circuit board 7 set under the shaft 2, and four switches S1-S4 are provided to the board 7 in response to the pawl 3. These switched are turned on by the pawl 3. Then each key top 1 is change to the differenct directions so that characters, etc. are selected in accordance with the direction of the key top 1. Then the codes are generated for selected characters, etc.
