PURPOSE:To suppress vibration of line hot cathode and obtain a device resistive to vibration by providing a vibration-preventing electrode for line cathode within the rear surface electrode. CONSTITUTION:A vibration-preventing electrode 17 is provided to a protruded part 15 of rear surface electrode. A modulation electrode 13 and a vibration-preventing electrode 17 are electrically separated through a separation band 18 provided in the length of about 0.1mm. by the side of protruded part. Thereby, voltage distribution around the protruded part 15 can be controlled. The modulation electrode 13 and the vibration-preventing electrode 17 are formed by gold deposition on the ceramic insulating plates 14, 15. When a negative voltage -2--10V to the vibration-preventing electrode 17, a strong repulsion force is applied because the vibration-preventing electrode 17 is near the cathode 1, said vibration- preventing electrode 17 works to prevent vibration of cathode 1. Thereby, vibration of cathode can be prevented without drop of temperature of line hot cathodes and exfoliation of electron emitting material from the cathode. Thereby, a display apparatus having high vibration resistance performance using line hot cathodes can be obtained.
