1,203,879. Thermally insulating vessels. LINDE A.G. 25 March, 1968 [31 March, 1967], No. 14276/68. Heading F4U. [Also in Divisions F1 and H3-H5] Current is supplied to reflecting metal layer 4 during the evacuation of the insulating space between walls 1 and 2 to heat an adjacent thermally insulating layer 3 within the space and drive off gases adsorbed therein. The thermally insulating layer 3 may be made of asbestos, plastics or glass fibre paper. Aluminium in the form of a foil or a layer deposited on the insulating layer may be used as the metal layer 4. The metal layer 4 may be a concentric spiral as shown or separate cylinders between cylindrical insulating layers. The metal layer may be divided over its length to form separate resistive sections. Heat insulating electrical insulation may line the facing walls 1 and 2. The insulating space may be of a dewar flash, between walls of a jacket for superconducting cables, or a pipe line. |
