PURPOSE:To delete quickly and completely a microprojection on the surface of a disk substrate by press-fixing a lapping tape on the substrate via a pressure element for relative shift on the substrate and furthermore shifting the tape relatively to the pressure element. CONSTITUTION:A lapping tape 21 contains polishing fine grains stuck evenly on its surface and is set slidably on the lower surface side of a pressure element 24. An end of the tape 21 is wound round a roll-out reel 22 with the other end taken up to a take-up reel 23. Thus the tape 21 is shifted relatively (arrow C) to the element 24. A shift stage 26 can have reciprocating movements toward the radius direction (arrow B) of a disk 10. The disk 10 is revolved to have an elastic press contact between the element 24 and the tape 21. Then the tape 21 is moved reciprocatively in the radius direction of the disk 10 and at the same time shifted relatively to the element 24. In such a way, microprojections 14 are deleted completely and with high efficiency by the tape 21.
