PURPOSE:To rapidly measure the surface of the bottom of the water with high accuracy, by providing a header, a header driving apparatus for horizontally moving or rotating said header, a plurality of probe needles vertically suspended from the header, an angle meter to said header, a header position detector, an operation means and a display apparatus. CONSTITUTION:Probe needles 18a-18c are attached to the header 19 between the leading ends of the piston rods 16a, 17a of cylinder 16, 17 provided to both left and right sides of the bottom of a ship and angle detectors 24a-24e are attached to said header 19. In this case, the Y-coordinages of the leading ends of the needles 18a-18e are calculated from the signal S of a stroke detector 33 and signals theta1-theta5 of the detectors 24a-24e by a position operating means 36 and stored in a memory apparatus 40 along with known X-coordinates. Further, the depths of the needles 18a-18e are calculated by a depth operating means 37 and stored in the memory apparatus 40 along with the tide level signal from a tide level signal generating means 38. Subsequently, the depths corresponding to coordinates X, Y are displayed on a display apparatu 41 in a matrix form.
