NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R, R' and R'' are lower alkyl; A is O or S). EXAMPLE:Diethyl-(3,4-dimethoxycarbonylphenyl)phosphate of formula IV. USE:An insecticide effective against injurious insects of the orders Lepidoptera, Hemiptera and Coleoptera. PREPARATION:For example, a 4-hydroxy-phthalic acid ester of formula II is reacted with a dialkyl chlorophosphate of formula III (A is O) or a dialkyl chlorothiophosphate (A is S) in a solvent, e.g. benzene, in the presence of a base, e.g. sodium carbonate or triethylamine, preferably at 0-100 deg.C.
