PURPOSE:To transmit laser beams with low loss and to prevent deterioration of an optical fiber by arranging an TR transmitting support member lower in refactive index than a core material on the inside of core coating tube to hold the core, and forming a hollow part on the outer circumference. CONSTITUTION:A holding member 3 made of an IR transmitting material lower in refractive index than the material of a core 2 is arranged between the core 2 made of an IR laser beam transmitting material and a tube 4 for coating the core 2, and the member 3 supports the core 2, and forms a hollow part 5 on the outer circumference of the core 2. As the IR laser beam transmitting material, CaBr, AgBr, and AgCl are used, and the IR transmitting material lower in refractive index than the core 2, CsCl, PE, etc., are used. Since the core 2 is held with the holding member 3, 12, 32 made of the IR transmitting material lower in refractive index than the core 2 on the inside of the tube 4, and the hollow part 5 formed with these members acts as an air clad layer, laser beams are transmitted with low loss, and since the core 2 is tightly enclosed with the tube 5, its deterioration is prevented. |
