PURPOSE:To reduce the height of an engine frame by fitting/removing one side or both sides of guide shoes in a crankcase and making a gap between a crankshaft web and a guide bar equivalent to the diameter of a crosshead pin. CONSTITUTION:One side or both sides of guide shoes 1 are removed in an engine frame 6, are rotated in the engine frame 6, and are taken outside through a work window. When a crosshead 20 is to be assembled into the engine frame 6, in the same way as the disassembling, one side of the guide shoes 1 is removed from the crosshead 20, which is inserted into the engine frame 6 and rotated, then one side of the guide shoes 1 is fitted and fixed to it. Accordingly, the total height of an engine can be reduced by a reduction 11 of the height up to the upper surface 6a of the engine frame 6.
