PURPOSE:To remove an influence due to the ground color of an original by detecting a white level signal on the original, and by correcting a picture signal based on the correction data. CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 16 indicates that it is operating to detect the white by lighting up a display lamp 12. A motor 9 is driven and the white detection of an original 15 is executed by the output of an original detector 14. A white detection circuit 17 outputs the white level signal which is almost white to a correction circuit 4, and stores it as the correction data. After that, the image information of the original is corrected based on the correction data which are stored in the correction circuit 4 when the original 15 is set in this half-tone facsimile device again.
