In a process for blowmoulding hollow articles of thermoplastic material, the blowing nozzle defines an extrusion passage within the blow mould and is rotated in contact with the thermoplastic material, whereby multidirectional orientation is imparted to the molecular of the material. In the first example, Fig. 2, a slug formed outside the blow mould is introduced into the bore of a reciprocable tube 20 having a plunger 24. The rotating plunger is brought down to define the extrusion passage 1 through which the material is extruded on downward movement of the tube 20. In another example, the slug is formed by injection in the bore of a piston member which moves down with the blow plunger so that a plunger n the bore effects the extrusion into the blow mould. In another example, the blow plunger (102) is fixed axially and the piston (92) moves upwardly within the blow mould (90) as extrusion is effected by the plunger (98). In another example a slug is formed by impact moulding of granules in a bore (134) of a piston (132) which moves upwardly within the blow mould (130). The slug may be impact moulded in and extruded from a bore in a wall of the blow mould. |
