PURPOSE:To obtain a packing material having good separating performance of a hydrophilic material such as polyethylene glycol by forming a crosslinked polymer gel contg. an epoxy group and making the gel polymer by hydrolysis and ring opening of the epoxy groups to make it porous. CONSTITUTION:A crosslinked gel-like copolymer consisting essentially of glycidyl monovinyl ester or glycidyl monovinyl ether (component A) and alkylene glycol divinyl ester (component B) is formed to a bead shape by aq. suspension polymn. The polymer is heated in a 0.5N sulfuric acid soln. to hydrolyze the epoxy group. The resultant gel permits adequate selection of network by the ratio of the components A and B. Such gel is used as a chromatography packing material, by which OH-contg. high mol.wt. compd. such as polyethylene glycol, dextran, and protein, enzyme, etc. are efficiently separated. The packing material having excellent mechanical strength and large resistance to bacteria, fungi, etc. is obtd. |
