PURPOSE:To enable paper to be fed at a variable pitch with a simple mechanism, by a method wherein a paper-feeding operation or control of paper feed pitch is performed by the second trigger electromagnet which is independent of the first trigger electromagnet and common with an operation-controlling means for a shift-selecting means. CONSTITUTION:When a motor 1 and a stepping motor 21 are driven at a stand- by position, a carriage 18 is started moving, a pulse of current is sent to the trigger electromagnet 5 to perform a shift-selecting operation for a type wheel group 10, and when a type position of a type position detector 17 is selected, the trigger electromagnet 4 is turned ON to operate a type-selecting clutch 13, and rotation of a type wheel shaft 12 is stopped. Then, the electromagnet 4 is turned OFF to turn a printing cam 14, thereby printing. When printing in a line is completed, the system is returned to the stand-by position, gears 30 and 31 engage, and when current goes to the electromagnet 4 a predetermined number of times a shifting cam 7 is turned by a predetermined amount, the paper is fed through a gear train 30-33, and the paper can be fed at a variable pitch by varying the number of times of passing the electric current to the electromagnet 5. |
