PURPOSE:To obtain efficiently short fibers free from unevenness of shape, extruding a melted metal in a crucible under pressure, cutting the extruded metal by a rotary line cutter, cooling it by a cooling means. CONSTITUTION:The melted metal 3 in the crucible 1 is extruded from thin holes of the nozzle 7 in a thin flow state with pressurizing the crucible with an inert gas, cut by the line blades 11... and the arms 12... of the rotary line cutter 9, and dropped into the cooling water tank 16. Length of short fibers can be changed by extrusion speed of thin flow of melted metal, number of revolutions of the rotary line cutter, and numbers of the line blades 11... and the arms 12..., and shape of cut thin flow has no unevenness by high-speed cutting.
