NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula I . USE:An economical raw material for a polymide resin, plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride, curing agent for epoxy resin, water-solbuble polyester, etc., having improved melting point, solubility in solvents, reactivity, etc. PREPARATION:Cyclopentadiene is diesterified by the use of a catalytic system of palladium-copper chloride and/or oxygen to give a diester shown by the formula II(R is alkyl, cycloalkyl, or benzene-substituted alkyl which may contain O or N in it). This diester is subjected to oxidation cleavage by ozone oxidation, etc. to give a compound shown by the formula III, the ester group is hydrolyzed to give a tetra-carboxylic acid shown by the formula IV. This tetracarboxylic acid is then dehydrated under heating under reduced pressure to give a monoanhydride shown by the formula V, and treated with a dehydrating agent such as acetic anhydride, etc. |
