PURPOSE:To produce a cyclic alcohol in high yield, by using a specific crystalline aluminosilicate as a catalyst for the catalytic hydration of a cyclic olefin in liquid phase, wherein the ratio of acid points at the outer surface of the aluminosilicate to the total number of the acid points is larger than a specific level. CONSTITUTION:A crystalline aluminosilicate having a ratio of the acid points at the outer surface to the total acid points of >=0.07, preferably >=0.2, especially >=0.3 is used as the catalyst for the liquid phase catalytic hydration of a cyclic olefin to produce a cyclic alcohol. The alcohol can be produced in extremely high conversion and selectivity compared with conventional process. When the above reaction is carried out in the presence of an oil phase composed mainly of cyclic olefin and an aqueous phase composed mainly of water, and the objective compound is separated from the oil phase, the objective compound can be separated easily from the above catalyst existing in the aqueous phase. Accordingly, the difficulty in the separation of the reaction product caused by the use of finely pulverized catalyst can be solved, and the effect of the above catalyst can be exhibited sufficiently.
