PURPOSE:To separate phenylalanine and cinnamic acid from a mixed solution containing phenylalanine and cinnamic acid, in high efficiency, by carrying out the chromatographic development of the solution with a synthetic adsorbent under a specific pH condition. CONSTITUTION:A mixed solution containing phenylalanine and cinnamic acid is subjected to the chromatographic development with a synthetic adsorbent at 9.0pH to separate phenylalanine from cinnamic acid. Although the synthesis of L-phenylalanine from cinnamic acid has high productivity, the separation of phenylalanine from cinnamic acid is very difficult because of the similar chemical structure of the compounds. When a porous synthetic adsorbent having a surface area of >=100m<2>/g and a pore volume of >=0.1ml/g is used as the adsorbent, there occurs a change in the relative adsorptivity of the compounds at <=9pH. The cinnamic acid having low adsorptivity is eluted first, and then phenylalanine is eluted, and accordingly, phenylalanine can be separated from cinnamic acid by collecting the eluted fractions separately. |
