PURPOSE:To enable to securely display a printing function selected in advance, by method wherein when a terminal mode is switched to a typewriter mode, the contents stored in a memory means are read and displayed. CONSTITUTION:In a correction printing mode, when a line-by-line mode is used, guidance data for the mode are stored in a guidance register 50, and when the correction printing mode is changed over to a non-printing or direct printing mode, the guidance data stored in the register 50 are momentarily transferred into an escape register 52. Thereafter, when the direct printing or non-printing mode is changed over again to the correction printing mode, the quidance data transferred into the register 52 are returned to the register 50, so that a guidance is turned ON. Accordingly, each time the mode is switched, manual keying to set the line-by-line mode is not necessary.
