PURPOSE:To improve the matching with a subscriber line and to obtain an excellent equalizing characteristic with a small order number by controlling amount and voltage weight relating to a time constant of a circuit having an exponential impulse response so as to decrease interference between codes in digital transmission. CONSTITUTION:A signal having a distortion through a transmission line is added by a signal multiplied with voltage weights W1,W2,..., WM through circuits 91, 92,...,9M having exponential impulse response beta1e<-beta1t>, beta2 e<-beta2t>,...,betaMe-<beta>M<t>. In this case, equalization is attained by controlling reciprocals beta1, beta2,...,betaM of the time constant of the circuits 91, 92,...,9M and the voltage weights W1, W2,..., WM so as to minimize the interference between codes in the equalizer output by a control circuit 11. Thus, the matching with the subscriber line is improved and the excellent equalizing characteristic is obtained with less number of order.
